New Proud Mary Textile Fashion Collection

We are always excited to share with you new, super-cool offerings seen on the web. This time, we were extremely eager to show you the latest Proud Mary textile collection rife with “ethnic-modern” home and personal accessories. We are totally bewitched by the wide range of lust-worthy goodies created by Harper Poe. There are geometric patterned bags, fluorescent scarves, and tie-dyed pillows that will undoubtedly draw your attention. The designer explains her work as a textile designer and importer for freundevonfreunden.com. “I guess my elevator pitch would be that I work with artisans in developing countries to make personal accessories that appeal to a Western market. All of my textiles are fair trade and combine a modern design aesthetic with traditional methods of production. For example, in Mali, they have been tie dying for hundreds of years. I take what they are already doing and have them use colors and designs that reflect what’s popular in the West, collaborating their design with my design,” Poe said.Proud Mary is known for creating unique, handcrafted patterned goods that are made in a socially and ecologically responsible manner. The brand supports and empowers global artisans in the developing countries while celebrating their beautiful work. Speaking about coming up with this name, Harper reveals that, “I started out working with my friend Molly. Her first name is Mary and so is mine. I thought it was such a dumb name at first, but also kind of perfect.”

The new Proud Mary collection is packed full with uber-gorgeous pieces. There are square patterned crochet bags with rope straps and pom pom embellishments screaming ‘SUMMATIME’, cheery, yellow polka dotted and multi-colored voile scarves, and Zig Zag patterned pouches. Well, what you should know is that the grey pigment in these pouches is derived from mud from the Niger River and the pattern is created using a soap and bleach solution.
